  • Description:  These tramway cars were one of 192 green and red cars that comprised the Skimobile at Mt. Cranmore in North Conway, N.H. Transporting skiers and sightseers continuously for 51 years, it was the oldest operating ski lift in North America when it was dismantled in 1989. Commissioned by North Conway philanthropist Harvey Dow Gibson, the one-of-a-kind skimobile was the invention of George Morton of Bartlett, N.H. Each skimobile car rode on hard rubber wheels and was pulled by steel cable up a wooden trestle to the summit of Mt. Cranmore, affectingly dubbed “Kiddie Car Hill.”” I –and thousands and thousands of others -- have many wonderful memories of riding these cars to the Mount Cranmore summit house. 08 Cranmore - Skimobile
